จักรยานกับการใช้งานบนพื้นที่สาธารณะ

Abstract

บทความชิ้นนี้นำเสนอรูปแบบการใช้จักรยานบนถนนในกรุงเทพมหานคร และการปรับตัวของผู้ใช้จักรยานบนท้องถนน ผ่านการอธิบายถนนในฐานะพื้นที่สาธารณะที่มีข้อจำกัดบางอย่างสำหรับจักรยานในเมืองใหญ่ งานชิ้นนี้เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพประกอบด้วย การศึกษาเอกสาร การสัมภาษณ์เจาะลึก และการสังเกตพฤติกรรมของกลุ่มผู้ใช้จักรยานในชีวิตประจำวัน กลุ่มประชากรกลุ่มนี้เป็นกลุ่มคนเมืองที่มีฐานะทางเศรษฐกิจและสังคมระดับปานกลาง ใช้จักรยานอย่างต่อเนื่องในการประกอบอาชีพและในชีวิตประจำวัน และเป็นประชากรกลุ่มใหญ่ที่สุดของผู้ใช้จักรยานในกรุงเทพมหานคร

ผลการศึกษาพบว่า รูปแบบการใช้จักรยานในชีวิตประจำวันเพื่อเพิ่มความคล่องตัวในการเดินทาง ลดระยะเวลาในการเดินทาง และลดค่าใช้จ่ายในการเดินทางระยะสั้นในบริเวณชุมชน หรือพื้นที่ใกล้ๆ ลักษณะการขี่เป็นการใช้ความเร็วต่ำ และใช้ทางเท้าเป็นเส้นทางสัญจร กลุ่มตัวอย่างชี้ว่าการขี่จักรยานบนถนนไม่มีอุปสรรคแต่อย่างไร การศึกษาสามารถสรุปได้ว่าการใช้จักรยานในพื้นที่สาธารณะเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของการสร้างปฏิสัมพันธ์บนพื้นที่สาธารณะที่นำไปสู่ความเคารพในสิทธิและความแตกต่างของผู้คนที่ใช้

Bicycles for use in public spaces

This paper presents 1) the bicycle use patterns and 2) how riders adapted to street situations in Bangkok. The streets as a public space pose some limitation for bicycle use in the city. Documentary research and qualitative research, In-depth interviews and behavior observation of daily bicycle users were used. Daily bicycle users belong to middle social and economic class. They are the biggest group in Bangkok who used bicycle for everyday use and occupation.

The study found that these forms of daily bicycle use are for travel convenience, reducing travel time, and reducing travel spending especially for short distance travel within the community or within limited area.  Bicycle use is slow in speed and mainly rides on sidewalk though the sampling group stated that there is no problem in riding on the street.   It can be concluded that riding bicycle on public streets or in other public spaces is the beginning point in creating interaction in public spaces that will lead to the act of respect in rights of diverse street/public spaces users.
