University Students’ Attitude Towards Gender in Thai Society

Abstract
This research aimed to describe university’s students’ attitudes towards gender roles. Subjects were students at a university in Thailand. Data were collected by structural interviewing based on the Attitude towards Gender Scale which consisted of five sub-scales including 1) norms of Thai women/men, 2) roles of Thai women and men in the family, 3) roles of Thai women and men in the community/workplace, 4) power in relationships, and 5) roles of Thai women and men in a sexual relationship. The results showed that men held significantly more traditional gender attitudes than women on three dimensions (roles of Thai women and men in the community/workplace, power in relationships, and roles of Thai women and men in a sexual relationship) (p< 0.05). University should include a mission and strategic plan on promoting gender equality, open gender equality study course, distribute Act of Gender Equality.
