Factors Related to Surveillance, Prevention, and Control Avian Influenza among Village Health Volunteers in Muang

Abstract

Village health volunteers have important role on surveillance, prevention, and control Avian Influenza. This cross-sectional survey research aimed to determine the relationship between  demographic factors with other factors among village health volunteers in Muang district, Suratthani Province such as knowledge, belief on their abilities, and social support receiving from their community on surveillance, prevention, and control Avian Influenza. The results revealed that the village health volunteers had good knowledge on the Avian Influenza’s surveillance, prevention, and control procedures (X= 12.34+1.78). The belief on their abilities showed at high level (X= 8.39, S.D. = 1.32). The social support receiving also appeared at high level (X= 2.66, S.D. = 0.22) and their surveillance, prevention, and control procedures were at high level (X= 2.52, S.D. = 0.61). The relation between demographic factors, showed that dwelling, age, education, and knowledge attainment on Avian Influenza were statistically significant to surveillance, prevention, and control the disease (p value = 0.016, 0.036, 0.007 and < 0.001, respectively). The belief on their abilities had statistically significant with surveillance, prevention, and control the disease (p value = 0.018). Moreover, the social support receiving was moderately statistically significant related to surveillance, prevention, and control the disease (p value < 0.001). The results from this investigation will be used for considering guideline for surveillance, prevention, and control Avian Influenza by the village health volunteers.
