Job Coach: A Sustainable Solution for Employment of People with Disabilities

Abstract

This academic article aims to determine estimation and employment trends for people with disabilities in Thailand and to describe the job coach model and the process of supporting the job coach for people with disabilities. People with disabilities have the right assistance that should be received from the government in accessing education, occupational, health and social. This article has three parts. The first, the situation of having a job for people with disabilities. Second, learning to job coach. Third, job coach for people with disabilities. Job coach is a teaching model and learning model that is a process to support employment with people with disabilities in workplace. It is to teach the job before, during, and after the employment. This is skill enhancement, knowledge, and increasing efficiency in working with people with disabilities. The study discovered that job coach model that include mostly learned from real experiences, learning from other people, and learning from training programs into the workplace. Thus it has promoted better job efficiency of people with disabilities. The job coach educator shouldn't stick only with job coach model but should consider of potential of the disabled, types of disabilities, and job with people with disabilities in the workplace.
