Abstract

Developing a causal model of Catholic educational leadership is essential to improving the quality of Catholic education. The objectives of this research were to develop a causal model of Catholic educational leadership of the school administrator staff in Catholic schools; to verify the consistency of causal factors of Catholic educational leadership of the school administrator staff in Catholic schools; and to propose guidelines for development of Catholic educational leadership of the school administrator staff in Catholic schools. The research sample for the quantitative study consisted of 600 school administrator staff members of Catholic schools in Thailand obtained by multi-stage sampling and the data was analyzed by using the LISREL program to analyze the mean, standard deviation, and structural equation models; while the key research informants for the qualitative study were purposively selected experts and executives.  The research tools were a drafted model, an interview form, and a questionnaire with reliability coefficient of .98.; while qualitative data were analyzed with content analysis. The research findings showed that (1) the developed causal model of Catholic educational leadership of the school administrator staff in Catholic schools was composed of the factors of Catholic educational leadership and the four factors affecting Catholic educational leadership, i.e. personal factor, organizational factor, organizational commitment factor, and administrative factor; (2) verification results of the developed causal model of Catholic educational leadership showed that the developed causal model was consistent with the empirical data as shown by the following statistics: X2=124.46, df=127, p=0.547, X2/df=0.98, CFI=1.00, GFI=0.98, AGFI=0.97, RMSEA=0.00, RMR=0.012, SRMR=0.024, CN=792.27; and (3) there were two sets of guidelines for development of Catholic educational leadership of the school administrator staff in Catholic schools, i.e. the organizing of short term/long term training programs, and the creation of a handbook for development of Catholic educational leadership of the school administrator staff in Catholic schools.
