Literature-Based Teaching Model for Enhancing Language Development in Preschool Students

Abstract

The enhancement of language development for preschool students should have a appropriate teaching model. Therefore, this study aimed of developing the teaching model in language development for preschool students using the literature-based. There were four steps of teaching model namely: preparation, model construction, quality assessment or the model by pilot testing, and improvement. The developed model consisted of the principles, the objectives, the subject contents and the evaluation. The samplings comprised the multicultural preschool students of the age of 4 - 5 who were southern Thai students, southern muslim students and Chinese students. They were divided into two groups of experimental and controlled. The SPSS for Windows was employed as the statistical analysis to find out means and standard deviation. The t test was also employed for means comparison. The results showed that after the use of the teaching model, the scores of the language development was higher (p < 0.01) than before. The results was also pointed out that after the use of the teaching model with the experimental group, the scores of the language development was higher than the controlled group (p < 0.01). This implied that the teaching model which was developed from the principled of giving respects in human value and human differences allowing children to learn the language through language experience, and the use of the literature-based for language development was appropriate for enhancing language development in preschool students.
