Parents’ Expectations on Bilingual Education at Tessaban Pattana School

Abstract

Bilingual school can be modernized by teaching English as a second language. Particularly, the municipality expects that this type of school can develope to be a learning organization suitable for globalizing the youth. In order to do so, the expectations of parents on educational means are essential and needed to be investigated. This work served to survey the expectations of 190 parents of pre-elementary students in 4 schools of Kaengkhoi District by questionairing. The results showed that the majority of parents expect 3 main issues regarding to the studying and learning management, i.e. disciplinary (99%) courtesy and honesty (97%) ,and unity (95%). According to places and environment, the parents paid great attention on safety (90%), holding bar for stair and cleaned classroom (87%) and safety of play-ground and its equipment (86%). The parents expected 3 main extra curriculum activities which were learning and studying on basic computer (87%), swimming (60%), and tracking (50%). These findings indicated that, most parents expected not only on general education but also the emphasis on discipline , courtesy , honesty, and unity as the highestpriorities that should be provided in the bilingual school. Safety and cleaniness of environment and knowledge on computer were also expected by the parents. This data is very useful for curriculum developing in bilingual school suitable for the industrial community.
