Student Capability Development within Innovative Project-based Approach to Teaching Communication via Information Technology System

Abstract


Project-based Learning (PBL) is defined as an effective student-centered classroom activity, where student’s technology and related question to engage them in design, problem solving, decision making, and investigative activities. It allows students to work in groups or come up with ideas and realistic solutions or presentations. Therefore, the study aims at developing 16 Rajamagala University of Technology Suvarnabumi students’ capability in self-learning activities for long-term, focusing on media production and English communication through information technology system within innovative Project-based Approach to Teaching Communication via Information Technology System Course. It draws attention to 4 classroom projects that reveal students’ ability to design their own media and communicate via three different media channels, i.e. Radio Script via local Broadcast, Institutional Advertising Video through net media communication; the Internet (www.youtube.com), Web communication in English Tips, and In-house Public Relation via Newsletter. Comparison of Student of Student Self-Evaluation with their learning capability before and during studying performed significant difference at p-value <0.05. The results strongly support effects of Project-based Learning on development of students’ productivity, self-directed learning, team working, and communication skills. On this basis, it is recommended that Project-based Learning could serve as a process of improving classroom activity in higher education and will definitely be effective approach to develop appropriate of students for higher education course syllabus.
