Municipal Solid Waste Disposal by Anaerobic Digestion

Abstract
Population growth and the development of economics and society contribute to organic waste accumulation in community. The improper waste disposal method will have an adverse effect on sanitation, environmental protection, and human health. Anaerobic digestion is one of the methods effectively used for organic waste disposal in Thailand since it provides volume and mass reduction of the input materials. It’s widely used as a renewable energy source because the process produces a biogas suitable for energy production helping replace fossil fuels. Additionally, the nutrient-rich digestate can be used as a fertilizer. The purpose of this article is to present knowledge on anaerobic digestion including process, output, advantages, and disadvantages of this technology, hoping that this technical information will help in choosing the best method for organic waste disposal in the community.
