The Establishment of the Community Participation inthe Development Ancient Remains: Case Study in Ban Ja-le Ancient Remains, Yarang District, Pattani Province

Abstract

This research study guidelines for constructing public participation indeveloping the ancient remain of Baan Jaleh. Four target groups consisting of 5 formal community leaders, 5 informal community leaders, 5 officers in charge of Baan Jaleh Ancient Remain and 5 people were studied. Data were collected throughFocus Group. Topics for collecting data comprised (1) problems of public participationin developing Baan Jaleh Ancient Remain (2) demands of developing Baan Jaleh Ancient Remain and (3) guidelines for promoting public participation in developing Baan Jaleh Ancient Remain. Moreover, the public forum was held to draw a completeconclusion. Data were analyzed through the summary of Focus Group and the public forum. The results were as followed: Problems of public participation in developing the ancient remain of Baan Jaleh found in this research were attitudes, religious belief, knowledge and understanding, participation, rules and regulations, landscapes, management, public utilities and public assistance. For the requirementsof Baan Jaleh Ancient Remain, they comprised the needs for improving landscapes,museums, public utilities and public assistance including restoring the ancient remain more and the management. Guidelines for promoting public participation in developing Baan Jaleh Ancient Remain were promoting knowledge and understanding, improving landscapes, public utilities and public assistance and being supported budgets from the government sector. The last one was the key for constructing public participation.
