The Study of University Teachers’ Desired Characteristics in English Language Teaching and Learning as Perceived by Yala Rajabhat University Students

Abstract
This paper aimed at studying the university teachers’ desired characteristics in English language teaching and learning. Undergraduate English major students were purposely specified to be the research participant. Questionnaire was distributed to 208 first to fourth-year EFL students. The questionnaire comprised of four factors including teaching, academic, Ethic and social, and behavior. The results revealed that four factors are equally important at the high level. However, when each item of four factors was compared, it is found that responsibility and punctuality are at the highest level and followed by self-confidence, active, and agility and neat, politeness, and interpersonal relations, respectively. This study can be a guideline for teachers’ characteristics development and improvement in case of lesson planning, teaching strategies, and being a role model for the students. The awareness of teachers’ characteristics in every aspect is also highlighted.
