Main Article Content
Abstract
The implanting of self and social responsibility to develop the individual’s morality, dedication and cooperation in getting involved with social activities, the so-called public mind, could help reduce social problems. College students are expected to have this public mind, but so far there has not been much information on this. The purpose of this research was to survey the student’s public mind and its related factors among 580 Chiang Mai University and Chiang mai Rajhapat University students who enrolled in the second semester of the academic year 2009. The results were as follows: there are 75.30% of the students who showed a good level of public mind; had responsibility for their family for society, and for themselves of 98.30%, 94.50%, and 78.10% respectively. Family factors had affect the person’s public determining his responsibility for oneself, for family, and for society at .01 level of statistical significances. It can be suggested that the promotion of individual’s public mind should start at the level of the family as it is the most significant societal unit. If every family tries to teach its children to be sympathetic, generous, kind, responsible, and involved in dealing with and solving problems, the children will take after the parents’ model and become the adults with acceptable public mind.
