Effect of Using Digital Media with Augmented Reality Technology for Creating Tourism Route Map of Khmer Civilization in four South Isan Provinces: Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin and Sisaket

Abstract

A tourist attraction that lack a good public relation would make tourists not travel consistently. This research aimed to develop a digital media using augmented reality (AR) technology for creating tourism route map of Khmer civilization in four South Isan provinces: Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin and Sisaket. Moreover, it aimed to study the effect of using the digital media with AR technology. The sample group consisted of 400 tourists who used to travel in region of four South Isan provinces. The sample was collected by accidental sampling method. The qualified research instruments for data collection included requirements questionnaire, the digital media using the AR technology, efficiency questionnaire, satisfaction questionnaire, and perception interview form. The data analysis used frequency, percentage, means, and standard deviation. The results found that the digital media consisted brochures, video, 360-degree picture viewer, AR connectivity, and user interaction.  The digital media content included place information and travel map of Khmer civilization connecting Phimai Historical Park at Nakhon Ratchasima, Phanom Rung Historical Park at Buriram, Sikhoraphum Castle at Surin, and Sakamphaengyai Castle at Sisaket. Moreover, the effect of using the digital media found that an overall tourists’ satisfaction was very good with means of 4.59 out of 5 points. Furthermore, the digital media which had a good public relation for attracting tourists to decide visiting should have had a good presentation and interesting. The digital media should include text, picture, high angle view with a 360-degree picture, graphic, video, and sound. In addition, the brochures should be designed beautifully, scanned with AR easily, and accessed the application quickly.
