Trends of Research on STEM Education in Thai Context
Main Article Content
Abstract
Currently, the research direction and advancement of STEM education in Thailand is unclear. The systematic review was used to study STEM research trends in Thai journals published during 2016–2020. Methodologies employed during this study included relevant study selection, categorizing, and content analysis, and the data were analyzed by means of frequency. The results showed that 73 topics related studies were found. The number of research articles was greater than that of review articles, reflecting that the research article writing trend in this area has increased, while that of review article writing has declined. The target group of the most interest to researcher was the student group (61.54%). The main topic of research by most researcher was STEM education and student development (49.38%) by focusing on the integrated development of knowledge and skills. The second-most studied goal was STEM education and teacher professional development (29.33%), with emphasis on the issues related to the states and barriers of STEM teachers and teaching at various grade levels. In regard to the research methodology, it was found that the quantitative method was used most often by researcher (55.12%). Although studies related to STEM education have shown a continuously increasing trend, knowledge is insufficiently varied. This trend study, therefore, identifies current issues and provides an overview of STEM education in Thailand, and delivers a clear research viewpoint to researchers and educators, thereby allowing them to develop their own studies and identify future STEM education trends.
