Abstract

The research aimed to study context-based learning that promotes communication and mathematical meaning communication skills, and to study development of communication and mathematical meaning communication skills on data analysis and presentation of students who learned through context-based learning in COVID-19 pandemic. The populations were 14 students of a secondary school, in Sukhothai Province, in the second semester of the 2021 academic year. The research applied classroom action research and the cycle of PAOR which were run for three rounds. Research instruments consisted of the lesson plans, reflective journals, worksheets, observation forms, communication and mathematical meaning communication skills test. The data were analyzed by content analysis and checked for the trustworthiness by method triangulation. The result revealed that context-based learning that promotes communication and mathematical meaning communication skills should begin with situations that students encounter in real life. Teacher’s questions are important to encourage students to express mathematical concepts. The questions should be thought-provoking. This will support students to develop communication and mathematical meaning communication skills in all 3 parts included of mathematical representations is the most developed, language of mathematics and clarity of presentation respectively.
