A Development of the Measuring Instrument and the Standard Criteria of Play Intelligence Quotients of Thai Children Aged 7-12 Years

Abstract
Playing is considered to be important for every aspect of children development. Moreover, there are many benefits concerning physical, intellectual, emotional and social development upon creative and intelligent playing. To know what level of intelligence one has in playing and how to build and develop it, it is necessary to have a measurement tool. The objective of this research were to develop the measuring instrument and to create a standard criteria of Play Intelligence Quotient for Thai children aged 7-12 years classified by age and gender. The sample group in this research consisted of 1,355 students in grades 1-6, aged 7-12 years, using a multi-stage random sampling method. The research results showed that The measuring instrument for Play Intelligence Quotient Test (Play Q Test) consists of 4 test items: (1) Zigzag & Shuttle Run (2) Wall Repeated Throwing – Receiving and Kicking - Receiving (3) Run and Coin Cup
(4) Obstacle Run. The content validity of this measuring instrument was evaluated by specialists and experts with IOC value ranged between 0.8 to 1.0. The construct validity values were significantly different at
the 0.05 and 0.01 levels and had reliability values between 0.74 to 0.85. The standard criteria of Play Intelligence Quotients of Thai children aged 7-12 years classified by age and gender into 5 levels: very good, good, medium, low, and very low. The Measuring Instrument and the standard criteria for intelligent playing from this research can be used to measure and tell the level of intelligence in playing for children aged 7-12 years, both male and female. The results of each test will reveal the highlights, disadvantages in the subcomponents of intelligence in play for those involved to build and develop children's intelligent playing to enable Thai children to develop their appropriate method of playing to their age group.
