Abstract

Science process skills are very important in the 21st century. It is necessary to find ways to develop them in learners. This research aimed to 1) develop and test the efficiency of a learning activity package using the 7-step inquiry-based teaching method and a virtual laboratory to promote science process skills, 2) compare science process skills before and after learning, and compare science process skills between after learning with the 70 percent criterion, and 3) study students’ attitudes towards learning science. The sample consisted of 29 sixth-grade students selected by cluster random sampling. The research instruments were 1) a learning activity package, 2) four lesson plans, 3) a science process skills test, and 4) an attitude questionnaire. Data were analyzed using percentages compared to the efficiency criterion (E1/E2) of 70/70 percent, t-test, mean, and standard deviation. The results of the research found that 1) the efficiency of the learning activities package was 74.07/74.83, and 2) the students’ science process skills scores after learning were higher than before learning. 3) The students' attitude towards learning science was at a high level ( = 4.39, S.D. = 0.60). The results of this study showed that the learning activity set using the 7-step inquiry teaching method combined with the developed virtual laboratory can be used to promote science process skills very well.
