The Development of Reading Comprehension Skills in al-Hadith Subjects Using I-SQ4R Method of Grade 10 Students at Chongraksat Wittaya School, Mueang District, Pattani Province

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) compare reading comprehension skills in al-Hadith subject before and after using the I-SQ4R method, 2) study the relative gain score of reading comprehension skills, and 3) analyze students’ satisfaction toward the I-SQ4R method. The sample consisted of 43 Grade 10/2 students at Chongraksat Witthaya School, selected by cluster random sampling. Research instruments included 1) learning management plans, 2) reading comprehension skill tests, and 3) satisfaction questionnaires. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, relative gain score, and dependent sample t-test. Results revealed that 1) students' reading comprehension skills after learning were significantly higher than before learning at the 0.001 level, 2) students showed high-level development with an average relative gain score of 51.98, and 3) students' satisfaction toward the I-SQ4R method was at a high level ( equation = 4.36, S.D. = 0.66). These results demonstrate that the I-SQ4R method can effectively develop students' reading comprehension skills in al-Hadith and create a satisfying learning atmosphere. Teachers can apply the I-SQ4R method in other subjects to enhance reading comprehension skills. For future research, researchers should study effects on other variables such as critical thinking skills, retention, attitudes, and study the integration of digital technology with I-SQ4R method.
