The Development of Quranic Reading Skills by Using Reading Practice for Primary School Students, Year 1

Abstract

This research was a quasi-experimental research with a single group pre-test and post-test design. The objectives were to 1) develop and find the effectiveness of a Quran reading practice for primary school students, year 1, based on the 80/80 standard criterion, 2) compare the Quran reading skills before and after using the Quran reading practice, 3) compare the achievement before and after studying Quran using the Quran reading practice, and 4) study the students’ satisfaction toward the learning management using the Quran reading practice. The sample consisted of 25 primary school students, year 1, students of Ban Nam Sai School. The classes with average reading scores lower than the specified standard were selected. The research instruments consisted of the experimental instruments, namely: 1) Quran reading practice,    2) learning management plan, and the dependent variable measurement instruments, namely: 1) Quran reading skills assessment form, 2) academic achievement test, and 3) satisfaction assessment form.           Data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation and paired t-test. The results of the research found that 1) the efficiency of the Quran reading practice was E1/E2 = 79.96/80.25 which was in accordance with the standard criteria of 80/80 as specified. 2) The Quran reading skills after learning were higher than before learning at the statistical significance level of 0.01. 3) The academic achievement after learning was higher than before learning at the statistical significance level of 0.01. 4) The students were highly satisfied with the learning management using the Quran reading practice.
