Service-Learning : Applicability in Nursing Education Management

Abstract

          This research had two objectives: 1) to determine the model of nursing education management by “service-Learning” and 2) to study the outcome after applying this model on nursing students. The sample consisted of 1) five community health volunteers, 2) five curriculum administrative committees of the college, 3) 595 undergraduate nursing students and 4)145 families of which the members had gotten chronic illness.  Research tools include 1) the guideline of service-learning, 2) guideline for conducting reflective activities 3) the assessment form for the service-learning results. Operational Research had been conducted with the nursing students throughout the four-year program of academic year 2556-2559. The research findings showed that : 1) academic service project was required for nursing educational administration and linkage management between the project and subjects in the curriculum was needed. 2) the students expressed that service-learning leaded to achieve learning objectives at high level (x̅= ๔.๕๖-๕.๐๐) and can make them impress in the terms as respect and human dignity. The research findings suggested that  1) It was very crucial to let  both the instructors and the learner understand what the service-learning is., 2)Curriculum management is required to specifically plan to integrate teaching, research and academic services in each academic year.
