Abstract

This research article is to study the effect in adopting The Thai Accounting Standard no.17 Leasing to the lessees, listed companies on the Stock Exchange of Thailand: SET 100. In order to carry out this task, the researcher applied three research methodologies, documentary, qualitative, and quantitative research. As for qualitative research, the researcher conducted in-depth interviews with the interviewees from 5 listed companies to gain their insights and valuable data. With respect to quantitative research, the researcher collected the pertinent data from the listed companies' annual reports and other relevant pieces of information from 33 listed companies. Content analysis and financial ratio analysis were applied in this research.
The findings of this research are as follows:
From the results of this study, it revealed that there is no effect in adopting The Thai Accounting Standard no.17 Leasing to the lessees, listed companies on the Stock Exchange of Thailand: SET 100. Nonetheless, there will be a significant impact on the leasing businesses not only the lessor but also the lessee starting in 2020 when complying with the Financial Reporting Standards No.16. The aforementioned impact will affect the contract document, the type of the lease assets, the practice of accounting, the data disclosed in the financial statements along with the notes accompanying the financial statements, and the ratio of financial assets and liabilities related to the lease contract. The new regulations, nevertheless, will also require the financial statement to be clearly and completely disclosed the information relating to the leasing business, which in turn will benefit to the users of these financial statements.
