Surrogacy in Theravada Buddhism

Abstract

    This research is to study surrogacy in the perspective in Theravada Buddhism. The result of the research was found that the problem of surrogacy is the social problem more increasing to impact. All sectors should have the policy to solution and to be known the impact to both of the one who is the surrogate and the one to be pregnant in direct and indirect way. Especially, the issue of right and the problem of trade in children lead to the impact to society inescapably.
    Buddhism does not agree or does agree that it is against the principles, but the action with the purify intention in both of one who wish children and one who is a surrogate, it holds that helping the other fulfil their wish, it expresses as the loving-kindness and compassion. The important problem of surrogacy is the challenge between “mental value” and “economic value”, which it is balance of surrogacy. It is no matter the ethical problem or the human right problem that is the legal issue. The bill of the law corresponds to the Technology which change the regulations to corelate with the Globalization. Many technologies are entering the role for destroying businesses. The business on surrogacy is also under the destructive flow of innovative technologies as well as other businesses. So the balance of mental value and the economic value are the creators of job and make the related person get paid with happiness. Therefore, it is the necessity of balance by holding the principle of the Middle Way in Buddhism to apply to surrogacy righteously.
