The Development of an Online Knowledge Base for Mural Conservation

Abstract

     This is a research by the method of research and development. The objectives of the study are to study and analyze the mural paintings and develop an online knowledge base for the conservation of those mural paintings. For the Knowledge analysis, the concept of the Knowledge Classification Approach was utilized. For Developing a knowledge base, the SDLC or System Development Life Cycle which consists of 6 steps was applied as a development framework. The research results are as follows; (1) the mural paintings within the study areas can be classified into 3 categories: 1) the Buddha’s biography, 2) the Jatakas and 3) the Buddha’s disciples (2) Regarding to the online knowledge base for conservation of the mural paintings, the overall quality assessment results were at a very good level (mean 4.37). The highest average was the presented content categories which were appropriate (average 4.23), followed by neatness and simplicity in page design (average 4.50) and the convenience in using the system and easy access of the data (average 4.47).
