An Analysis of Issues and Needs in the Development Handicrafts in Nong Khanak Subdistrict, Tha Ruea District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province

Abstract

         This research article is part of a project titled "The Development of Creative Handicrafts from Local Wisdom to Enhance the Grassroots Economy Based on Buddhist Principles in Nong Khanak Subdistrict, Tha Ruea District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province." The objective of this article is to study the problems and needs for the development of handicrafts in Nong Khanak Subdistrict, Tha Ruea District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. The research methodology used was qualitative. The research instrument used was a focus group discussion. Data was collected through discussions with ten local residents experienced in handicrafts, selected through purposive sampling. The collected data was analyzed using content analysis.

         The research findings revealed the following: (1) Problems related to handicrafts in Nong Khanak Subdistrict, Tha Ruea District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province can be categorized into three main issues:  1) Lack of participation from the younger generation  2) Insufficient production capital  3) Lack of marketing channels. (2) Needs for the development of handicrafts were identified in four main areas:  1) The desire to learn new designs and acquire new skills  2) The need for marketing channels  3) The need to establish an official occupational group  4) The need for a communal fund to support production within the occupational group.
