The Development of a Curriculum to Enhance English Reading Literacy for Grade 5 Students.

Abstract

 The objectives of this research were to 1) develop and examine the quality of an English reading literacy curriculum for grade 5 students, and 2) to study the effects of implementing the English reading literacy curriculum for grade 5 students. Experimental Research. The sample consisted of 16 Grade 5 students from Banmaesam School in the 2025 academic year. The research instruments included a curriculum implementation manual, and an English reading literacy test. Data were analyzed using percentages, means, standard deviations, and dependent t-tests.


          The research results revealed that:


1) The English reading literacy curriculum for grade 5 students comprised seven components 1) introduction, 2) curriculum principles, 3) curriculum objectives, 4) curriculum content structure, 5) teaching and learning process, 6) media/learning resources, and 7) measurement and evaluation. Expert validation showed that the curriculum had an overall appropriateness at the highest level and the curriculum implementation manual had an overall appropriateness at the highest level


2) The results of implementing The English reading literacy curriculum for grade 5 students revealed that grade 5 students who studied through the English reading literacy curriculum showed significant improvement, with mean scores increasing from 12.81 points (42.70%) to 23.19 points (77.30%). The difference was statistically significant at the .05 level, confirming the research hypothesis, and the post-test results surpassed the 70 percent criterion set by the curriculum.
