Abstract

This academic article aims to examine key concepts and principles and to develop ethical library management for the development of a learning society in the context of contemporary social changes. Rapid transformations in information technology, economic conditions, and social structures have significantly influenced the roles and missions of libraries as major learning resources in society. The study synthesizes relevant theories, concepts, and academic literature related to library management, learning society, and virtue and ethics in order to propose a systematic management model. The findings indicate that a virtue-based library management model for the development of a learning society should consist of four essential components: (1) management grounded in virtue, ethics, and responsibility among library administrators and personnel; (2) management of information resources and services that promote equity, accessibility, and lifelong learning for users; (3) promotion of participation from users, communities, and learning networks in library operations; and (4) ethical, transparent, and socially responsible use of information technology. The application of this virtue-based library management model can enhance the role of libraries beyond being mere repositories of information resources, transforming them into learning centers that cultivate knowledge, virtue, and wisdom. Consequently, such a model contributes to the sustainable development of a learning society in the long term.
