Abstract

The objectives of this research are to: 1) assess how the Eastern region's tourism has developed to gain international recognition; 2) investigate the issues and obstacles in the region's tourism development; and 3) suggest strategies for the region's tourism development to gain international recognition. The current investigation of research is qualitative. A total of 23 key informants—10 executives and 13 government officials—are active in the development of tourism in the Eastern region and are included in this study's key informant group. The strategy employed was purposive sampling. An interview with some structure was used as the research tool. A descriptive analysis was performed on the data.

The research findings were,

1.With the goal of promoting Eastern Thailand as a world-class tourist destination, local tourism offices are diligently implementing strategies outlined in the 13th National Development Plan. By focusing on the development of popular destinations such as Sattahip, Pattaya, and various islands, the region aims to create a more equitable distribution of tourism income and empower local communities. Additionally, there have been developments in infrastructure to better accommodate tourists, such as public transportation systems, waste management, the installation of CCTV cameras at tourist attractions, and the enhancement of the tourism workforce's language and communication skills.

2.The challenges and obstacles to developing Eastern Thailand's tourismindustry into a world-renowned destination include:the degradation of tourist attractions such as water pollution and coastal erosion, which negatively impacts the tourism image; overcrowding in major tourist cities and inadequate infrastructure to meet demand; and a lack of coordination and cooperation between government and private sectors to promote tourism.

3.To enhance the Eastern region's international tourism reputation,it is recommended to leverage the concept of soft power and capitalize on its maritime tourism attractions.By doing so, marine tourism and natural attractions can be promoted to garner greater global interest.
