Abstract

This research investigates 1) the current state of natural resources and environmental issues that have led to the development of community innovations, 2) the value system underlying the creation and utilization of community innovations to establish management mechanisms, and 3) the application of community innovations to enhance local community development towards achieving various dimensions of sustainable development goals (SDGs). A case study analysis of six provinces: Mae Hong Son, Phichit, Singburi, Kanchanaburi, Narathiwat, and the Mekong River Basin Community Organization Network in seven northeastern provinces. The research method involves analyzing data from a set of community innovation area documents published by the Community Organizations Development Institute to commemorate its 20th anniversary and presenting the findings in a descriptive summary.

Research findings indicate that. 1) community-driven innovations have emerged as a response to various resource and environmental challenges. These innovations have been motivated by a combination of incentives, pressures, and community-led initiatives, fostering collaboration and stimulating the development of management mechanisms aligned with SDGs 13, 15, 16, and 17. 2) A value-based approach can spark the creation of innovative management mechanisms, encompassing both tangible and intangible indigenous knowledge, as well as specific and shared approaches. Moreover, it can leverage social and cultural capital to address challenges and elevate developmental issues into shared agendas. 3) Community-based innovations in management that contribute to community development are intrinsically linked to the economic dimension, specifically job creation and various quality-of-life improvements, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 2, 3, and 12.
