KUDICHIN Model: Enhancing Community-Based Tourism Potential through Innovation to Create Local Identity Value Using Wisdom and Innovation Based on the BCG Economy in the Kudi Chin Area

Background: The foundation and evolution of traces of Thai civilization in history, wisdom, values, and cultural heritage according to the way of life of the Siamese people of Rattanakosin, leading to the creation of value through innovation and local identity business models, which is aimed at studying, evaluating potential, developing, and evaluating operations that have a positive impact on the foundation of well-being, economy, and society for the target area and people in the Kudi Chin community, Wat Kanlaya Subdistrict, Thon Buri District, Bangkok.
Methods: Mixed research with participatory action research is a research methodology applied to 3 specific target groups and 3 conditional target groups using data recording form, training curriculum, 9-box business model, design thinking in collecting data through interviews, participant observation, workshops, meetings, experiments, testing and evaluation to analyze data content by inductive classification and summary, using a program to create formulas in tables to process average scores, a program to design packaging graphics, and to creates business plan image program.
Results: Kudi Chin, one of Thon Buri’s oldest multicultural communities, is home to diverse ethnicities and religions. Its people have long engaged in labor, trade, and household industries, preserving unique culinary traditions and cultural practices. The community has now formed a registered social enterprise group, leading to the creation of a sustainable cultural tourism model. Innovations include the Cookies product, a health-focused variant using stevia, and identity-based creative packaging. These efforts result in expanded visibility through national/international media, a local learning website, and the registration of “Kanoom Farung Kudeejeen” as a geographical indication product. The research also developed the "K-U-D-I-C-H-I-N" model, a transferable framework for local researchers to implement, expand, and utilize in the area.
Conclusions: This study aims to develop a process that promotes cultural learning in a historic neighborhood through active local participation. By applying creative approaches aligned with circular economy, biodiversity, and sustainability principles, the initiative seeks to enhance the area's distinctiveness and attractiveness, ultimately generating positive socio-economic impacts and empowering the community as a unique and engaging destination.
