Abstract

This study aims to develop a model for drug information services through PharmYaring Facebook page and evaluate its effectiveness regarding users’ perception, utilization, attitudes, and satisfaction. It was conducted in two phases using a research and development approach, comprising 1) the development of a pharmaceutical information service model and 2) the evaluation of its effectiveness. The assessment tools demonstrated high validity (IOC = 0.92) and reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.97). The results revealed 249 topics were posted on the Facebook page growing by 19,668 followers, generating 3,881,226 impressions, 3,073,429 reaches and 747,525 engagements. The most frequently presented topics were drug efficacy, dosage, and drug administration, which accounted for 107 items (19.78%). Among the 500 respondents to the questionnaire, the majority learned about the Facebook page through shares by friends (n = 225, 45.0%), and the peak usage hours were between 7:01 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. (n = 184, 36.8%). Most users applied the contents to their patient care (n = 408, 81.6%). The respondents expressed a high level of agreement regarding the media and the model of drug information services delivered via the Facebook page across all evaluation aspects (M = 4.50, SD = 0.649), especially on their opinions regarding the content of the page (M = 4.65, SD = 0.534). Additionally, overall satisfaction with the service model was rated at the highest level (M = 4.70, SD = 0.483). In summary, drug information services remain a crucial role of pharmacists and should be implemented concretely in hospitals at all levels and the findings underline the potential of Facebook as an effective platform for distributing drug information in community hospitals.
