Abstract

The purposes of this research were to study the effects of using action research to develop the reading habits of Prathomsuksa IV students of Banrairuamwitthayakarn School under Kanchanaburi Primary Educational Service Office II.

The subject of this research was twelve students in Prathomsuksa IV, studying in the second semester of the academic year 2011.

The action research was used in this research. It consisted of four steps including ; step 1 planning, step 2 practicing, step 3 observing, and step 4 reflecting the outcomes of practicing The research tools were an reading habits test, an informal interview and an reading habits observation form

The results of this research were as follow:

Planning step : It was found that Prathomsuksa IV students had reading habits behavior in the moderate level ( $gif.latex?\mu$ = 2.67, $gif.latex?\sigma$ = 0.66). Furthermore, five lesson plans were created.
Practicing step : It was found that Prathomsuksa IV students had reading habits in the high level ( $gif.latex?\mu$ = 3.88, $gif.latex?\sigma$ = 0.70).
Observing step : It was found that before developing their reading habits, the average score ( $gif.latex?\mu$ =53.33) and the standard deviation ( $gif.latex?\sigma$ =4.44). After developing their reading habits, the average score ( $gif.latex?\mu$ =77.58) and the standard deviation ( $gif.latex?\sigma$ =7.39).
The step of reflecting the outcomes of practicing : It was found that after the reading habits were developed by using the action research process, the students had higher development 24.25%.
