บทคัดย่อ

This survey research study aimed to investigate the instructors’ and learners’ needs towards English explanatory narrative skills for Thai classical performances. The sample group was 80 instructors and learners majoring in Performing Arts and Drama from the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts of Burapha University as well as Faculty of Music and Drama of Bunditpatanasilapa Institutes in semester 2 of the 2022 academic year, selected by applying the table for the sample size identification. The research instrument was a questionnaire of instructors’ and learners’ needs towards English explanatory script writing skills and English explanatory narrative skills for Thai classical performances. The collected data were statistically analyzed using frequency (f), mean (x̄), standard deviation (S.D.), and percentage (%). The findings revealed that 30.00% of the instructors were experienced in English explanatory narrative skills, but 70.00% were not. Moreover, the overall language skills of instructors were moderate (x̄ = 2.78, S.D. = 0.49). Their Thai writing and arrangement skills were high (x̄ = 3.60, S.D. = 0.81), English pronunciation and explanatory narrative skills were moderate (x̄ = 2.63, S.D. = 0.85), Thai-English translation skill was low (x̄ = 2.50, S.D. = 0.82), and English writing skill was low (x̄ = 2.37, S.D. = 0.81), consecutively. However, the overall needs of instructors and learners towards English explanatory narrative skills for Thai classical performances were high (x̄ = 3.46, S.D. = 1.17). They considerably need the English pronunciation skill of technical terms for Thai classical dance (x̄ = 3.57, S.D. = 1.07) as well as English pronunciation by standard English phonological principles (x̄ = 3.49, S.D. = 1.12), and moderately need accurate English explanatory narrative skills for Thai classical performances (x̄ = 3.36, S.D. = 1.26) respectively.
