The Study of Needs for Functional Competency Development of the Teachers of Yala Islamic Private Schools

Abstract
The development of Teachers’ Functional competency is necessary to study the expected condition and the actual situation in relation to the functional competencies of the Islamic private school teachers in Yala Province. The sample consisted of 271 private Islamic school teachers in Yala province, obtained by Multi-stage sampling. The collected data was by needs querying. The data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation, t-test and PNI Modified. The results were found that the expected conditions and realistic situation of the functional competencies of the Islamic private school teachers in Yala province differed significantly at the .01 level, indicating that the Islamic private school teachers in Yala province need to develop functional competencies in every field, with expected condition of synthetic analysis and research for learners’ development at the most average followed by the classroom management. As for the realistic situation with the least average was building relationships and cooperation with communities for learning management, while prioritizing of needs, it was found that the area with the highest PNI Modified was synthetic analysis, and research for learners’ development (PNI = 0.23), followed by building relationships and cooperation with communities for learning management (PNI = 0.22) and classroom management (PNI = 0.20) respectively. Therefore, administrators or policy makers should set guidelines for the development of Teachers’ Functional competency as an important tool in developing quality education.
