SD-STAR: Teaching Innovation Integrating Davies's Practical Skills with Simulation to Develop Achievement and Hajj and Umrah Practical Skills of Ninth Grade Students
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aimed to 1) study the development of learning achievement in Hajj and Umrah after using the SD-STAR teaching, 2) compare learning achievement in Hajj and Umrah before and after using the SD-STAR teaching, 3) evaluate the practical skills of performing Hajj and Umrah after using the SD-STAR teaching, and 4) examine students' satisfaction with the SD-STAR teaching. The sample consisted of 34 students from Grade 9/4 at Udomsasn Wittaya School, Yala Province, in the first semester of the 2024 academic year, selected through cluster random sampling. The research instruments were: 1) SD-STAR learning management plans on Hajj and Umrah, 2) a learning achievement test, 3) a Hajj and Umrah practical skills assessment form, and 4) a satisfaction questionnaire toward the SD-STAR teaching. Statistics used included percentage, mean, standard deviation, relative gain score, and t-test for both one sample and dependent samples. The research findings revealed that: 1) the post-learning achievement was significantly higher than pre-learning at the 0.01 level, 2) the average relative gain score was at a high level (56.13), 3) all students demonstrated practical skills at an excellent level, exceeding the 80% criterion, and 4) students reported the highest level of satisfaction with the SD-STAR teaching. These results indicate that this teaching approach was effective in developing knowledge and practical skills, with students being able to perform procedures correctly and fluently, while also expressing high satisfaction. Teachers should have thorough knowledge of Islamic teachings and practices and prepare sufficient materials and equipment. Future research should examine knowledge retention, application to other content areas, and extend to groups intending to perform actual Hajj and Umrah to develop approaches suitable for diverse learners.
