Abstract
The purposes of this research were: 1) to investigate the process of changing production patterns from structural conditions that influence the change and the adjustment of Peasants following the change in production patterns, and 2) to determine how Peasants adapt to the change in production patterns in the Kalasin Province area. This study used in-depth interviews with Peasants in the Nonburee area, Sahatsakhan District, and Kalasin area, followed by focus group discussions with academics and experts to find ways to adjust peasants production patterns to meet market demands.
The results of the research revealed that 1) the structural conditions affecting the change in the production patterns of Peasants consisted of 3 conditions as follows:
First, the capitalist economic conditions in which the market system entered the community forced the peasants to shift their forms of production from subsistence production to commercial production. Second, the political conditions where government mechanisms and state powers enter Nonburee communities, such as public health, schools, public utilities, and the entry of local government to play a role in the change. Finally, cultural conditions which cause Peasants to enter consumerism according to the era for convenience, affecting their debts. 2) Peasants in the Nonburee area have adjusted to the change in production patterns by doing four things: building and tightening social networks; reproducing the concept of a sufficiency economy; establishing a bargaining process between Peasants and the government; and ensuring economic and social security. This has evolved into a regional network of government mechanisms based on populist policies to help Peasants survive in changing economy and society under capitalism.
