Abstract

This qualitative research aims to analyze the significance of the relationship between the body and mind. The findings reveal that the body (object) and mind (subject) have been a subject of much debate among Indian philosophers, yet there remains no definitive conclusion regarding which is more important. It is merely stated that there exists a single, immortal reality (e.g., according to Sankhya philosophy) that is eternal, creates all things, and is the uncaused cause. However, it remains unclear whether this single reality is of a mental or physical nature. The information found in the Theravada Tripitaka that highlights the unique status and role of the mind could be considered a foundational element that some philosophers, such as Asanga and Vasubandhu, have further developed. Indeed, the subsequent developments of these two scholars are evident in the Yogacara.
