Abstract

The objectives of this research were as follows: 1) to study the patterns of learning innovation utilization at cultural and local wisdom–based tourism sites in the Lanna region; 2) to examine the knowledge management practices of cultural and local wisdom–based tourism sites in the Lanna region; and 3) to develop learning innovations for cultural and local wisdom–based tourism sites in the Lanna region through a GPS-based system. This study employed a qualitative research methodology. The key informants were local communities or cultural groups that served as tourism sites, totaling 30 persons. The data were analyzed using content analysis with descriptive interpretation.
The research findings revealed that:
1) Regarding the patterns of learning innovation utilization at cultural and local wisdom–based tourism sites in the Lanna region, it was found that artistic innovations were employed as a key instrument in promoting tourism. The emphasis was placed on the application of local culture and indigenous wisdom, which represented the identity and uniqueness of the community, through artistic, cultural, and local wisdom–based activities. These practices reflected the integration of learning, art, and creative tourism, which played a significant role in promoting sustainable local development.
2) With regard to the knowledge management of cultural and local wisdom–based tourism sites in the Lanna region, the findings indicated that this involved the study and integration of knowledge and understanding derived from collaborative practices among various related factors. Such knowledge, which was dispersed among individuals or documented in various sources, was collected and systematically organized for the benefit of entrepreneurs. The knowledge management process consisted of four components:1) knowledge creation, 2) knowledge storage, 3) knowledge transfer, and 4) knowledge utilization.
3) In terms of the development of learning innovations for cultural and local wisdom–based tourism sites in the Lanna region through a GPS-based system, it was found that data on cultural and local wisdom tourism sites in the Lanna region were used to develop a prototype cultural and local wisdom tourism geoinformatics website (http://www.lanna.info). This website was disseminated for use by tourists and government agencies. Feedback obtained from user evaluation questionnaires was then utilized to determine guidelines for further development of the cultural tourism geoinformatics system.
