LANNA MANUSCRIPTS: CREATING LEARNING ACTIVITIES FOR PRESERVATION

Abstract
The research report of “Lanna Manuscripts: Creating Learning Activities for Preservation” aimed to; 1) study the background and methods of conserving Lanna manuscripts; 2) develop a learning activity for Lanna manuscripts; and 3) promote learning and conservation of Lanna manuscripts within Lampang Province. The study was conducted as action research employing both qualitative and quantitative data. The research instruments included an IOC assessment form for experts; interview forms for monks, local scholars, and academics; 30 specialists in ancient Lanna scriptures; and an evaluation form for Lanna scripture learning activities. The activities’ reliability was assessed by 100 participants in Lampang Province, comprising 50 monks and 50 laypersons.
The findings revealed that; 1) Lanna manuscripts served as vital sources of information in history, religion, art, and local wisdom. The preservation of these manuscripts reflected the pride of Lampang Province in its cultural heritage. The knowledge and values contained in the manuscripts provided essential guidance for promoting conservation, fostering awareness, understanding, and inspiration among learners to sustain this wisdom. 2) The Lanna Scripture Learning Activity aims to enhance language skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the Lanna language, while integrating technology for communication and information dissemination. It also seeks to deepen understanding of the language, Lanna script, and Buddhist principles contained in the scriptures, thereby preserving and transmitting Lanna cultural wisdom and promoting the tangible dissemination of knowledge to society. 3) Promoting the study and preservation of Lanna manuscripts in Lampang Province can be further developed through workshops, exhibitions, knowledge dissemination via various media, and the systematic support of Lanna manuscript education in schools, temples, and communities through a comprehensive process.
