AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF UPPATASANTI SCRIPTURE

Abstract

                The purposes of this research are: 1) To study the history and content of the Upapatasanti scripture, 2) To study the analysis of the literary style and the value of the Upapatasanti Scripture, and 3) To analyze the impact of Uppatasanti Scripture. The research is a qualitative research from documentary and in-depth interview that can be applied to analysis the values and influence to Lanna society. The result of study is found that: The content of the Upapatasanti Scripture had used to praise for the sacred things that have power and power such as; Devi, Brahma, Giant, Naga, Gandharvas, Garuda and Demon, etc. This Mantra can be stopped the disaster from danger, evil, take the bad thing to be good and happiness. The literature was composed of poetry in Pali Patayavat form and contain into 271 spells. This script is a value and influence on the Lanna society as;

             1) Faith in Triple Gem and the sacred things; it will be helped to escape from suffering, 2)
individuals and family, it makes helpful to psychological relationships, to make and work for
prosperity, 3) culture and tradition, the Lanna way has had the unique in conducting the ritual, and 4) local knowledge, writing of scripture literature is originated from local knowledge in both content and inscription in the palm leaf. the scriptures play an important role for two reasons as:
1. The Lanna King had the role for helping Buddhism that was called the Golden Age. That
is the result to: 1) The dissension of Pali language 2) The dissemination of principles; it is refine the mind to create virtue and morality 3) The important Buddhist literatures that provides from local knowledge and to be used referring in academic knowledge. In addition, the Lanna literature has
influenced as follows: 1) Local knowledge, inscription or recording the teaching in palm leaf 2)
Aesthetics in composing/evangelism 3) Native scriptures and Dhamma teachings that incorporates principles, myths, beliefs, and local traditions.
             2. Virtue decoration/Dhamma scripture offering; Lanna believed that, the virtues and
dedicated the Dhamma scripture can get the happiness to individual and family as well as to
dedicate to the parents who passed away. The virtue of composing/offering/ praying and listening to the scriptures in Lanna are impacting to: 1) auspicious and dangerous avoiding; it is the great auspicious of life, avoiding from all danger 2) getting the morale and morality 3) Buddhist teachings that believe of Dhamma giving is the most valuable than all 4) Lanna culture is dedicated to the sermons before or after the Buddhist chanting (Buddhist Mantra)
