Health Promotion for the Elderly by Community Participation

This research aim is to study 1) health promotion behaviors for the elderly 2) comparing an average score of the behavior before and after attending the project “developing behaviors to promote health in the elderly through community participation”; and 3) application in strategy according to the Ottawa Charter which states the community participation for enhance the elderly’s health. This research investigates in three sample groups - 159 elders for studying the health promotion behaviors by convenience sampling, 25 elders for attending the project by purposive sampling, and the other 56 related persons for developing strategy from the Ottawa Charter by a purposive selection method. The research tool to collect data is composed of (1) a Thai questionnaire in the health promotion Lifestyle, and (2) a semi-structure interview form which is later analyzed in Descriptive Statistics, Paired Sample t-test and Content Analysis
The research results are revealed that the elderly’s health promotion behaviors were in an excellent level. The mean scores of the elderly’s health promotion behaviors after participating the project activities were significantly higher in statistics at the level of .05. The result from Ottawa Charter Strategy Application is a form consisted of defining an agreement, building environment to healthcare, strengthening community activities, developing elderly skill and improving healthcare services.
