Teacher Development for Promoting the Building up of Desired Characteristics of Northeastern Students Based on Sufficiency Economy Philosophy
The purpose of this study was to build up teachers’ proficiency in creating learning activities for promoting students’ expected characteristics under the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy. The participants consisted of the teachers from twelve schools in the northeast of Thailand. The research methodology was in a form of the research and development: R & D using parcipatory action research; PAR. Participation was identified by 1) investigation teachers’ background knowledge before attending the seminar 2) participants’ observation during seminar and 3) studying teachers’ knowledge gained after seminar. Data collected were analyzed quantitatively through the use of means, and standard deviations including explanation.
The results of the study showed that 1) before attending the seminar, most teachers had background knowledge on sufficiency economy at certain level. In addition they said that the knowledge they had was
totally different from knowledge they received from the seminar. 2) After attending the seminar, most teachers accepted that they had better understanding on the relationship between students’ expected characteristics and philosophy of sufficiency economy. 3) Most teachers gained more knowledge and more ability in creating assessment tools to assess students’ expected characteristics under the philosophy of sufficiency economy. 4) Most teachers absolutely accepted that local wisdom learning resources and project based learning researcher used as a means of creating students’ expected characteristics under philosophy of sufficiency economy was an effective one.
