Abstract

This research aims to analyze the management of the Asia Social Issues (ASI) journal published by Walailak University. The objectives focused on analyzing the content of articles published in ASI journals and assessing the management conditions of journals following the international journal evaluation criteria. The sample group consisted of 123 articles published between 2018 and 2022. The data used for analysis include the information on article scopes, types of articles, authors' affiliation, and the number of authors, analyzed using descriptive statistics. In addition to journal evaluation, performance metrics such as total citations, authors' status, editorial board composition, website details, and articles adhering to standard criteria, were analyzed by comparing with the “Pre-selection criteria” of the Thai Journal Citation Index Center (TCI).

The result indicated that 96.75% of articles were predominant in the type of research publication, and the discipline of Area Studies constituted the majority of content (24.39%). In addition, the majority of authors were domestic (71.54%), with a significant portion submitted by outside agencies and governments (47.97%), and 36.9% of authors were international. In terms of authorship, single-authored articles were prevalent (43.90%). According to the “Pre-selection criteria” from TCI, ASI publications received 81 citations across the TCI and Scopus databases from seven countries, with 27 foreign experts on the editorial team, equivalent to 65.85%. Furthermore, the ASI provides a complete journal on its website in English, and articles are managed according to international standard criteria. These findings suggest ASI's alignment with its goals and international standards, potentially facilitating inclusion in the Scopus database for future ranking.
