Data and Technology Information System Development for Monitoring, Supervision, and Evaluation in Basic Educational Level
Abstract
The objectives of this research were (1) to study the problems and requirements of the data and technology information system, (2) to study knowledge of the data and technology information system development, (3) to develop the system for monitoring supervision and evaluation in basic educational level, and (4) the results of using system for monitoring, supervision, and evaluation of learning. This research used research and development cycle model of Walter R. Borg (1965) consisted of 10 steps. Population of this research consisted of administrators, teacher and persons who were working in basic schools and samples were randomized or selected from each step of this research. Research tools consisted of 1) the development tools were database, computer languages, and user manual. Visual basic 6 language had been used to develop application programs, and PHP had been used to develop the web page. 2) the data collection tools, consisted of questionnaires, check list, interview, group focus, the efficiency and effectiveness evaluation form. Statistics and data analysis were percentage, arithmetic mean, and coefficient derivation. The results were as follows:
- 1. The results of study the problems and requirements of the data and technology information system development for monitoring supervision and evaluation in basic educational level found that
1.1 All problems were moderate, separated into 3 parts, 1) hardware and network problem was moderate, 2) software problem was high, and 3) people ware was moderate.
1.2 All requirements of the data and technology information system development in hardware and network, software, and people ware were high.
- 2. The results of study knowledge of the data and technology information system development for monitoring, supervision, and evaluation in basic educational level found that the principles to develop the system consisted of 1) each school should have the center database to collect every data and information in school. 2) school should set the computer network to share resources and work together. 3) the data and technology information system requires the cooperation of all working parts in school. The registrar must record the basic information of the students, academic affair must assign teachers to subjects and enrollment for teachers to record scores and assessment in each subjects in measurement and evaluation work.
- 3. The results of development the data and information in schools. Researcher fellow to research and develop cycle 10 steps. The results of development caused as follows:
3.1) Database for use to storage data and information in the database contains tables such as table name TBstudent collected students data, table name TTeacher collected teacher and personnel data, table name TSubject collected courses data, and table name TScore collected scores and assessments data of learners. The database were divided into two systems: Access database for the stand alone system, it operates independently for small schools and medium schools size, and SQL Server databases for computer networking system, it supports for large data, for large schools and extra large schools size.
3.2) The application computer programs that they were developed by researcher for recording data, processing data, and produce information as the user’s needs, the programs consists of measurement and evaluation program, academic program, registration program, the school’s website to present data and information, and the user’s manual to use the system.
3.3) Information for monitoring, supervision, and evaluation of the learning in basic educational level. The information obtained from the system, it separated into user’s works, there were the measurement and evaluation work, academic work, registration work, and others.
4. The results of using the data and information system for monitoring, supervision, and evaluation of learning in basic educational level found that 1) the overall average of the system efficacy was excellent ( = 4.75). 2) the overall average of the system effectiveness was excellent (
= 4.60). 3) the system was used for monitoring , supervision, and evaluation of learning found that the users must recorded data in their work, programs would process data in each work. The system caused the information in all works especially in the teacher’s work, academic work, and registration work.
