Problems and Suggested Development for Music Teaching for Students in Level 1-2 under Ubon Ratchathani Education Service Area Office

This research aimed to 1) study the problem condition in teaching and learning Music subject for students in level 1-2 under Ubon Ratchathani Education Service Area Office, 2) find suggestions for developing music teaching for students in level 1-2 under Ubon Ratchathani Education Service Area Office. The sampling in this research was 294 students whom were selected by Simple Random Sampling. The tools for collecting data consisted of questionnaires and interview forms. The statistics used for data analysis were percentage, mean and standard deviation.
The research revealed that:
- The problem condition in general was in medium level. The problem in teaching mediums was in high level while the problems in measuring and evaluation, teaching management, contents and curriculum were in medium level. For curriculum, the problem in number of documents per number of teachers was in high level. For contents, the problems in content analysis, activities emphasized on listening and singing songs to make course syllabus, and activity content analysis on self-rhythm emphasis were in high level. For teaching management, the problems in song content teaching management, percussion band content teaching management, and the songs by the King teaching management were in high level. For teaching mediums, the problems in using Metronome in teaching, the quality of the present tools, teaching medium production for local teaching propriety, related curriculum demanded tools provision from authorities and teacher manual (according to the improved curriculum) sufficiency were in high level. For measuring and evaluation, the problems in self-remiss form and group-remiss form recorded by students, creative work recorded, checking lists, and application of methodology and results in music were in high level.
- Suggested development
For curriculum, curriculum analysis seminars, understanding the purposes of the curriculum, and sufficient document provision by setting aside budget for purchasing curriculum related documents were proposed. For content, music teachers should be provided for teaching music subjects, work shop training about content analysis or practicing activities should be arranged, course syllabus should be created in group, and the Education Service Area Office should strongly emphasized and have policy on this matter. For teaching management, work shop training in Thai and Western music should be arranged for music teachers to be more accurate in content, students should be provided more practice, and only music degree teachers should be able to teach music subjects. For teaching medium, there should be seminar in medium production and usage in music subjects, specific music classroom should be provided, and executive should pay more attention to music subjects by providing teaching tools and budget for medium production. For measuring and evaluation, seminar in measuring, evaluation, and testing to achieve the objectives of music subjects should be arranged.
