Development of an Assessment System for Teaching and Learning Management of Academic Personnel via Web Application: A Case Study of Northeastern University

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to develop a system to evaluate teaching and learning management of academic personnel via web application: A case study of Northeastern University, 2) to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning management of academic personnel via web application: A case study of Northeastern University, 3) to evaluate satisfaction of the users of teaching and learning management of academic personnel via web application: A case study of Northeastern University. This research has developed a system based on the SDLC system development process. The target group in effectiveness assessment consisted of computer specialists who had experience in information system or computer technology development. The research tools included a system for assessing teaching and learning management of academic personnel via web application, system effectiveness assessment forms, and system user’s satisfaction assessment forms. The statistics used to analyze the data comprised mean and standard deviation. The results of the research showed that 1) a developed system to evaluate teaching and learning management of academic personnel via web application: A case study of Northeastern University could be used in practice. Students and academic staff or instructors at Northeastern University could access to assessment information that meets their needs in each semester. The system was divided into 3 privilege levels: Students, instructors, and system administrators. The system consisted of 7 main parts: instructor’s identity verification system, student identity verification system, teaching and learning management assessment system by students, teaching and learning management assessment system, system showing the results of teaching and learning management assessment, system showing the courses taught in the semester, evaluation data reporting system and system for printing result reports of teaching and learning management assessment. 2) The effectiveness of the system from specialists, in overall, was at the highest level ( =4.82, S.D.= 0.31). 3) The satisfaction of the users of the system, in overall, was at the highest level ( =4.75, S.D. = 0.15).
