การสอนโดยใช้ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นสื่อกลางในระดับอุดมศึกษาของไทย: ประโยชน์ ความท้าทาย และข้อเสนอแนะ

บทคัดย่อ
มหาวิทยาลัยชั้นนำหลายแห่งของประเทศไทยมีนโยบายส่งเสริมให้พัฒนาและเปิดสอนหลักสูตรที่ใช้ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นสื่อกลาง (English Medium Instruction หรือ EMI) ด้วยเหตุที่ต้องการปรับตัวให้เข้ากับสถานการณ์ปัจจุบันคือการเข้าสู่ความเป็นนานาชาติ (Internationalization) ซึ่งการปรับตัวนี้เป็นปรากฏการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในมหาวิทยาลัยทั่วโลก ทั้งนี้บทความนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อนำเสนอภาพรวมของการจัดการสอนโดยใช้ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นสื่อกลางในระดับอุดมศึกษาของประเทศไทยรวมถึงประเทศอื่น ๆ ในทวีปเอเชีย โดยเนื้อหาครอบคลุมประโยชน์ ความท้าทาย และข้อเสนอแนะในการจัดการเรียนการสอนโดยใช้ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นสื่อกลาง ซึ่งการมองเห็นภาพรวมของการสอนโดยใช้ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นสื่อกลางจากหลายแหล่งข้อมูลในภาพรวมทั้งสามมิตินี้ จะเป็นแนวทางเบื้องต้นสำหรับสถาบันอุดมศึกษาที่ต้องการพัฒนาและปรับปรุงหลักสูตรที่ใช้ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นสื่อกลาง เพื่อเตรียมความพร้อมทั้งผู้เรียน ผู้สอน รวมถึงพัฒนาการจัดการเรียนรู้โดยใช้ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นสื่อกลางให้เกิดประโยชน์สูงสุดภายใต้บริบทของประเทศไทย
