The Effects of Using Task-Based Learning with Edutainment to Develop English Communication Skills in an Intensive Islamic Studies of an Opportunity Expansion School

This study used task-based learning and edutainment aimed to improve research participants' English communication skills in English for communication subject and to examine students’ satisfaction levels towards English lessons during the second semester of the 2022 academic year. The target group included 14 third-graders from Ban Khaena School in Narathiwat. It was chosen by a purposive sampling with students’ less proficient English communication. The instruments were 1) English communication skills tests, including reading and writing test, listening and speaking assessment, 2) lesson plans, and 3) questionnaire. The statistics were used mean, percentage, and standard deviation. One sample t-test was used to test the hypothesis.
The results revealed that the target group who took the tests for the reading and writing test was15.85, or 79.28 percent, while the average score for the listening and speaking assessment was 15.07, or 75.35 percent. After conducting and comparing a hypothesis test, it found that the average score was 30.92 with the requirement of 70 percent and it was discovered that the target group students achieved the standard with a statistical significance of .01. The levels of students' satisfaction were shown at a high level in 4 aspects (=2.79). According to the content analysis, students preferred studying outside of the classroom over inside classroom setting. At the same time, having more electronic devices such as tablets, mobile phone with Internet connection, was needed in every subject to provide students with their new experiences and their pleasant learning environment.
