The Organizing Music Games Activities to Promote English Skills for Young Children

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) To study the organization of music game activities to promote English language skills for preschool children. 2) To compare the English language skills of preschool children before and after participating in music game activities. The target group for this research consists of boys and girls aged between 4 and 5 years old, in the second year of kindergarten, totaling 20 students from the second semester of the 2023 academic year,                   at Sawangdandin School, Sawangdandin District, Sakon Nakhon Province, under the supervision of the Sakon Nakhon Educational Area Office, Area 2. The research tools used in this study include 1) Lesson plans for music game activities to promote English language skills for preschool children, consisting of 8 learning units, with 3 plans per unit, totaling 24 plans. 2) A test of English language skills for preschool children, consisting of 2 skills 1) listening skills with 20 items and 2) speaking skills with 20 items.

        The research findings indicate that 1) The organization of music game activities, following a 5-step process consisting of introduction, explanation and description of activities, activity implementation, creativity and summary. These steps promote the development of English language skills, both listening and speaking,      in preschool children. 2) Comparing the English language skills of preschool children before and after participating in music game activities, it was found that: Before the activities, the children had language skills at a sufficient level (= 8.20) and after the activities, the children demonstrated significantly improved language skills (= 22.70). This suggests that before and after the experiment of organizing music game activities, preschool children's language skill scores on average increased for all skills.
