Modernization and Chinese Development Model

Abstract

               The purpose of this article is to present the oriental development model that applies the Western development theory to match with the context and social conditions of their country by giving an example of China development model. Development is a process of change to achieve better outcomes or modernization. After the World War II, there are economic and social changes in many countries. The concept of development was studied and it became apparent in the post-Cold War. Modernization theory is a popular mainstream development concept in developing countries in many western countries by using United State, the leader of liberal democracy as a model of developed country. However,Modernization theory is merely a response to the interests of the great power country and not suitable for third world countries. Hence, Eastern scholars find ways to develop in line with their social conditions and their domestic context. One of the most successful developing countries is China who adopted Western concepts and adapted them to their society and culture. It emerged as a unique Chinese development model and was able to change their country to become the world's second- largest economy and play an important role in the international stage.
