Abstract

             The objectives of this research was to study beliefs and ritual related to the shrines in Yanyao community,Samchuck District, Suphanburi Province.This qualitative research. The data collection was conducted through the observation, in-depht interviews, and photographic illustrations.The results of this study were presented using a descriptive analysis.
               Research results are as follows. A relationship was found between the shrines and the belief system of Yanyao residents. These residents believed that the shrines could grant them whatsoever they desired, including, careers, education,good fortune, climate, environment and unhealthiness etc. All of these beliefs were instantiated in rites involving the shrines. Annual court ritual .These rites have been practiced over a long duration since the time of the ancestors. The residents believe that correctly conducting rites in which respect is paid to the shrine will result in Yanyao granting success to them. Beliefs and rites seen at the shrine reflect the lifeways and well-being of Yanyao residents in various aspects: social, culture, economy and environment. In addition, it was found that the beliefs and rites of Yanyao devotees influenced society in various ways through promoting community harmony and help each other.The researcher considers that the existence of the community is the strong beliefs of Yanyao residents. The ancestors used rituals as tools to teach their children. Make the community more disciplined and peaceful. Which will lead to conservation, restoration and succession for future generations
